On June 12, Facebook officially announced the launch of the Hashtag.

In an opening statement, Facebook revealed some staggering statistics regarding the number of users actively engaging on the site during popular events – such as the annual Superbowl and the Game of Thrones finale. This, in turn, prompted the idea of introducing the hashtag to bring those who are talking about hot topics together – but is Facebook years too late?
